This is an excellent read. One of my favorite books.
The Sexual Politics of Meat: A Feminist-Vegetarian Critical Theory explores a relationship between patriarchal values and meat eating by interweaving the insights of feminism, vegetarianism, animal defense, and literary theory. The New York Times called it “a bible of the vegan community.” This October, a twenty-fifth anniversary edition was published as the book enters the Bloomsbury Revelations series.
Stumbling across and reluctantly previewing a cruel video of Bali natives drowning helpless dogs (for food) is a reminder of why I went vegetarian over 11 years ago, and vegan 6 years ago. Who are those who can decide which animal is acceptable to kill and which isn’t? I’m not ranting or judging, just sayin’.
